Lowrance 3500c display

I have been having issues with the display on my lowrance GPS. It will work, but then for no reason the backlighting seems to go off and the unit is unresponsive, won't even power down. I thought maybe I had a loose connection, so I respliced the power supply which I thought fixed the problem, but the same thing keeps happening.  Anyone have any similar issues. I was considering replacing the power supply cord that plugs into the GPS, but its $45 i don't want to spend if its just the whole unit crapping out.  Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
