The continuing saga of dead Clarion stereo parts

Some may recall the RBO discussion about dying Clarion stereo head units. Ours was all but dead last season, so I bought a used M455 head, hoping to not have to replace the head unit and both remotes, along with the hassle of figuring out speaker wiring and how the little hidden amp worked into the equation. The used head unit worked just fine on a first test -- totally plug and play, which was good. Then the display on the helm remote stopped displaying anything, but otherwise the remote still worked. We seldom use the one at the swim platform, except maybe to raise or lower volume or mute it temporarily, so I ended up swapping positions of those two units. Not an easy task, working blind with an arm stuck in through a hole, but it was successful. Maybe I can fend off the need for a total system replacement for another couple seasons!

Yes, it's unfortunate that remotes aren't compatible between the different series of head units. That's the only thing holding me back from upgrading to an M309 from the M455.

Awesome, I'll check it out. Thanks.

Looks like the only downside is that the display on the old remote won't show anything....but who cares. The only thing it usually shows is the audio source. All other buttons will function. Looks like I'm upgrading to an M309 as well! The digital signal processing capabilities when it comes to highly compressed MP3 files and some overly compressed SAT radio channels is impressive. I'll most likely be selling the M455 when I do the changeover (nothing wrong with it).
Thanks very much.
