Slowed down to Idle, boat died, will not start

I hope someone can help me. We have a 2005 Captiva 223 with a Volvo Penta Engine. We spent a long day with the boat today and when returning to the marina I slowed to idle and the boat died and would not restart. I checked the kill switch and the lanyard was in place, the shift lever was in neutral and everything seemed normal. When I got to the dock a tried checking everything again and would not start multiple times. When I engage the key I do not hear the normal three beeps when the key is turned. After multiple attempts the engine finally started right up, and ran fine, but when I tried to start again I got the same thing; no beeps, heard fuel pump cycle, cranked fine - but would not start. There is gas by the way as I "topped of the tank." Any help you folks can give me would be appreciated.
