Besides a good chart plotter I also use the Navionics app on my phone. I use an iPhone 6+ on a suction cup mount.

Yes I actually tried that last time out.... that's why I know I need a new gps, its waaay more detailed.

I will second the Navionics app.  I use it on my ipad and a seasucker.  Love the set up.  Already had the iPad so save me some $$ on new GPS.  Also use the older GPS and chart plotter as a 2nd and 3rd back up. I dont actually keep it in this position as I found it gets in the way.

dang, that is cold! We were out this weekend and enjoyed the 60's in the am...but that's about as bad as it gets this time of the year.....we have biketoberfest this weekend downtown so we are splashing again on Friday.......I have a Garmin 541S which I have had for about 6 years now and it has never gotten me in trouble. Fortunately most of Fl. boating, the worst you will hit is a sand bar as there are not much rocks and such to worry about until you get into the keys of S Florida which I have not yet ventured!
