What is the metal post in between my two engines for?

1993 Rinker 300 vee

is it for some sort of engine hatch support tube that is missing? a seat that fits on it for working in the engine bay?(its in the middle between the engines just in front of the middle battery)

BTW new to a Rinker, just bought the boat :)

    Welcome to the forum. That looks like a home made engine hatch stand where you could slide a support pole over it.

    @F1100, I agree with Steve but where is your electric hatch opener post and ram - is it not normally in that location?

    That's exactly what I thought.  A place to put in a rod to prop open the hatch. It's not original.

    My 280 had a stainless tube that plugged into a socket on the bottom of the engine compartment.  It was to add support to the engine hatch.  That way something other than the edges were holding up the weight of the hatch and anything placed on it.
