Thrusters and Axius are, in my opinion, like power steering and AC in cars way back when. At first everyone thought yeah nice, but do I really need it? Where I boat the answer is you don't HAVE to have a thruster or Axius - it just reduces my stress by about 100% and my gel coat bills by 95%.

Just a thought here, I have the Axius system on my current boat. Wouldn't it be easier to just install that. There would be no cutting into the hull to retro fit the thruster.

Quite a project not easy to do if you have no experience with it. According to your picture the motor would have to be installed horizontally and then supported.make sure that you have clearance all around .Also if you have a retractable table in the front V (like my 300)the motor would need to be off center wich is not a problem. I guest you have all the measurement of the thruster would be a good idea to make jig of the motor to make sure it would fit.then a lot of fiberglassing to do on the inside for the tube and also on the outside.

i think its fit there in the pitcure .

but is it ok to make a larger hole in the wall so it fits?  problem is the thruster need more space. cut a lager hole in the wall is it a bad idea?

the plastic work is no problem only to place the tunnel right.

Just my $0.02 on the subject.   In my case with the 06 342, Axius installation was not possible because the engines of that day did not have the smarts to be able to controlled electronically.  Also, since the 270 is a single engine boat, an Axius installation would not be possible anyway.  I admire the skills of all captains of 270's maneuvering at the dock.  I have seen some really excellent close quarters work, far better than I could do at my current point of experience.

Axius is not option for single engine so its hade to be a bowthruster.

not easy to place it right with the walls in wrong places:)

That will take a serious battery cable. Where will you install another battery if needed?

When you are saying wall is it the part with a notch already in? This a important crossmenber
I would not remove to much. For the fiberglassing (plastic) quit a bit to do around the tunnel and on the outside, also on the outside maybe you would want after the installation redo the gelcoat or if you use antifouling live like that but still lot of fairing to do.

Yes its that wall, ok the notch have to be bigger and deeper if its installs as on the picture . If i made it stronger with more glasfiber or its it a bad idea?

Carefull if you need to cut deeper and wider fiberglass will not replace the thick piece of wood that is already there, I would sand the fiberglass on both side of the crossmember an put a thick piece of marine plywood on both side full length and secure it with stainless screws and cover everything with cloth and fiberglass. This is only my opinion

Don't forget the pounding the hull take in big waves.
did you take a look at an old post where it shows a bow thruster install in aRinker 27 maybe that will give you some ideas or you could contact the people's that did the installation.

How far is that wall from the tube that would be installed. That tube when install properly will give some compression stenght. Again this only my opinion

The further you go back the less effective your bow thruster would be

the tube is installed about 20 cm from the wall

yes tube will make the hull litlle bit stronger i think but is it enough if i make notch  deeper not so nice if i get weeker hull.

nothing for me i going to ask the local expert in this matter

But i think if i make an new wall near the old one then have 1 1/2 wall it going to be fine whit the hull when cruising in bigger waves.

    sideshift is very ugly thing.

Ok. Asking and expert is probably the best thing you could do, and even better get somebody with experience to do the installation more money but better be safe than sorry.
    goo luck

This has nothing to do with the topic but I just ran across this from a local friend.  This is for swede.  I hope you enjoy seeing this.

Swede did you buy the bowthruster already?  I saw a new system at the Toronto boat show. The bow thruster mounts on the outside of the hull. There was another older version that was bigger (from a different manufacturer), but the one I saw was very small and streamlined. All you had to do was drill a hole for the power cable and then secure the external bow thruster.

Look at this site - http://www.yachtthruster.com/installations

It looks like a way better system.
