Happy Thanksgiving!

Howdy all, Thanksgiving here in Fl is obviously a little different than up north. We have had a really warm November. The pictures at Hoontoon Island which is one of 4 state parks in Fl that have a marina of sorts- 18 bucks a night with power! Really nice area on the St. Johns River as well. There is a club called Central Florida Cruizers (or something like that) that meets there every Thanksgiving, We are looking to possibly meet up with them at some other events to see some new areas.

Ras, we're counting on you to keep the photos coming all winter.  It's a good antidote for frostbite.

Tell me again, why we are living up north? Every winter I start to question it.

Ras, can you get a 342 in that marina?

I have seen some HUGE boats at this little marina- but don't think of it as a normal marina- there is no fuel or restaurants. It is a small island state park, very rural.  They have several small cabins you can rent, some regular camp sites and numerous trails to walk.  The have a small ferry that brings folks back and forth across the river for day trips/camping. For us, it's close to home, not crowded and inexpensive so a favorite of ours for the weekend. The St. Johns is a maintained water way, 12 to 20' depths are common. There is a power plant in Sanford they used to bring  barges through. Late 1800's, the St. Johns was the major water way for moving goods up and down the state-the large paddle boats were the transportation at the time. When the rail roads came in, that was the end to the real traffic on the river except for pleasure boating. Not sure I would make a special trip from Ft. Myers to just go there but the St. Johns is a beautiful river to travel. From Lake George south, there is not much on it...a few marinas here and there and fish camp type places. Further north your heading into the Jacksonville area and more stuff. I travel to where your at for more scenery and places to go in the boat like Cayo Costa or Upper Captiva, Little Gasparilla Island.....from Dunedin South all the way to where your at is where we have vacationed the past years....you have a lot of nice marinas along that route and beaches and places to stay on the water.

It's still a destination once you have burned out in your area...after all, that's how we end up over by you!
