Fuel Sending Unit

My fuel gauge started to read only 3/4 when full last season. Today I was able to pull the sender out and this is what I found. Somehow the fastener that holds the float in place slid up against the rheostat! Causing the float to go up and down only part of the way. It must have read wrong on the low side also, I'm lucky we never ran out of gas!

I ended up replacing the unit. I measured the old one and it turns out the previous owner cut the arm a little too short. The new clips on the new sender are on nice and secure!

I have owned only three boats, and don't think the fuel gage in any of them worked...crap shoot. Have never pulled a sender, or thought about doing so! How is it fastened in the tank? Has me curious!

Very easy. It mounts to the top of the tank with a gasket and 5 screws. Hook up the ground and wire to the gauge and your done.

hmm..pretty simple....pretty harsh environment to work in as well,  thanks @aero3113. I bet long island has some interesting boating? There is so much history in the northern boating areas....

Boating is great here. You have the Gold Coast mansions on the north shore and Connecticut to explore. Great beaches on the south shore,don't forget about the east end and Manhattan!
