I was just double checking that the fuel injected Kohler 5ECD generator takes NGK BPR4ES spark plugs. Can anyone confirm thank you.

I have a 5EKD but in my parts manual it lists the spark plug for a 5ECD as their kit number GM46180 - I don't think that stands for a  General Motors spark plug. I have a suspicion it means a general maintenance  kit part (no pun intended guys) BUT I do have the Kohler 1-800 contact number and they have been great with me in the past..... 1-800-544-2444. Hope someone on the forum has the specific info. If not, maybe give Kohler a call. If you knew the serial number or year of your generator that would probably help too. Good luck!

@MT, I called Kohler and they quoted me the GM46180 but I wanted to cross reference to a local parts store.

I get you. I really like NGK. Of course the one thing you don't want the parts boys to screw-up is to give you a longer plug. You can always tell right away if the thread is off but the length? if you don't notice that - well you will on start-up. BAM!

I will pull one out tomorrow after work and run to the store and go with the NGK, some forums suggest going with the hotter NGK BPR6ES. Is it better with a hotter or colder plug? Probably wont make a difference.

Just found a site that listed the plugs as: GENUINE KAWASAKI SPARK PLUG BPR4ES. That's what I will go with, hope this helps everyone.

The NGK-BP4ES is correct. Personally, the NGK's work better than other brands I tried in the gen.

As advise: do not use the plugs that the kawasaki engine manual calls for or by engine serial number; it is incorrect. Too short. It is for the air-cooled version.

Anything BD says about Kohler gennys, you should listen too.  He has been around the ringer and back...  His old posts greatly helped me with my issues.  Its only a matter of time before you have your own issues with your 5ecd.

@BD, thanks for the info, @craigswardmtbI already have had issues with the genny trying to do a bit of preventative maintenance before summer.

Fruitless attacks. My gen has never failed or failed to start. Good thing it has a Yanmar motor. LOL

The Kohler gens eat plugs. Even if they look good, first thing to replace if you have issues.
