Salon speakers

Our two speakers in the salon area appear to be dying. They work at low volume but anything mid or above they shut down. The problem is, we are trying to figure out how to remove them? The "cover" is just like the black material on speaker fronts but appears to be wrapped on a piece of wood and may be screwed into the cabinet area on the port side. We can't get behind to the speakers or in from the side either. Before i destroy anything, are there any experienced suggestions?

Have you tried twisting them like a bottle top?
