Generator noise - 2013 290ec

Hi,

I have a 2013 290ec that came with a Kohler diesel 5KW generator. It works great but it's loud especially if you are in the aft berth. I don't believe they installed the sound shield.

Anyone have experience silencing the generator sound? I'm thinking either having the sound shield installed and/or soundproofing on the inside of the cabin.

I barely hear mine with no shield

Mostly hear the water flying out of the exhaust

Mine is pretty quiet also even without the shield if it is running right.

My gas 5e is quiet too, even with the sound cover open.  The sound cover is nice to keep water from dripping on it, I leave off the service door.

I would check the engine mounts for wear/loose and the exhaust to make sure it is not loose or vibrating against something.

Very rare to have a diesel genny on a gas boat. Has to have a separate tank

If us gas guys have to butt out you are stuck talking to only Handy...  
I leave my entire cover off for better air flow and ease to service, because God knows the Kohlers need a lot of service. The sound doesn't bother us but we obviously don't run it while trying to sleep, which perhaps you diesel guys do.

I'm one of the few 290ec with a Diesel engine so using the same tank for generator and engine.

I'm also in south florida so we need to run it at night for the AC. The noise is loud in the aft berth.

i will check the mounts.

My gas fueled generator is pretty quiet.  The only noise I am really tuned to is the exhaust.  It sounds like a guy throwing up.

The sound shield would help reduce the noise level. But mine which runs on gas is fairly quiet. But at one point my was under warranty work and had the sound shield removed. It was much louder.
