2009 rinker Captiva fuel gauge

My Captiva 246 CC has a fuel flex sensor and a faria multi gauge.  The fuel gage does not work.  Dealer looked at it and thinks they hooked it up backwards and redid the wiring and still does not work. Could the electronic fuel sensor be fried?  Has anyone dealt with these things before?  Dealer seems to not know much about them.  Seen things on forum about senders and gauge testing but not sure if sensor is the sender?   Is there a way to test the sensor?

The sender works on resistance. 280 ohms to 33 ohms. Get a meter. Senders are relatively cheap as well if you wanted to go that route
