How do I drain my fuel tank?

I have a Captiva 226 that has 3 year old gasoline in the tank.  Although I did use the gas StabBil I really don't have the confidence to take the boat out on the lake.  Is there an easy way to drain/siphon/empty the tank?

You can get a rotary pump that fits on a drill and will suck the gas out, just be very careful and keep the drill away from the fill outlet and gas fumes. A double grounded drill would be best. If this worries you there are fuel polishing companies that will clean and return your fuel to your tank or companies that will dispose of your fuel.

George, how do you know it's no problem?  It will ignite yes, but I would be careful with it, as you can blind your fuel filters from by-products of fuel degredation. Also if it contains ethonol, it's probably broken down and separated, which will draw water into the engine.

If fuel phase separation has occurred. polishing is just a big waste of money. Suggest drain tank and refill with fresh fuel
  • but octane boost and heat should be fine

  • Siphon and hand pump !
