our holding tank level indicator isn't working. I would like to try and clean it first. Has anyone done this and do you have any tips?

Easy job, but not a pleasant one. Gentle cleaning with a brush and water. The usual cause is that it gets caked with calcium deposits and/or paper. Best case, it will last a few more years. Worst case, you spend $80 for a new one.

You can try rinsing it with toilet bowl cleaner too.
