I pulled mine without disconnecting the hoses. Getting to the hoses is a total pain in the butt on my engine. It seems like you have a whole different set of challenges.
I pulled the belt.. then pulled a couple of pullies eventually getting the pump free.
Then I pulled the 6 or so bolts and pulled the front off the whole pump.
I was a little paranoid about getting it all back on while keeping the gasket in place.. but I managed.
I have the brass pump BTW.
Just remember to give a little gas when first firing your boat back up to get the pump primed and water flowing..
Looks like all points are covered here.. I thought I'd add just for the sake of it: I too lube up the interior ends of hoses when reinstalling.. but I have a hard time trusting clamps to hold the hose on the nipple when they're lubed up with anything petroleum based... (boy, somebody taking this post out of context sure would have a field day, huh?) .. it's for this reason I use dishsoap to lube it.. once it seats and cooks, that bad bear ain't going nowhere..... I reckon I need to add: neither am I a big fan of reusing hoses, though.. which is handy while using the soap trick- on the count you'll just about have to cut it off.. I promise you, though, that hose won't leak at the junction.
Concerning Volvo Penta Water Pumps. 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 all the same. VP will tell you they are not re-buildable and you must buy new. Around 400 clam. But they are re-buildable for under 20 clam. You just need a bearing puller. The bearing and seal ring are available in the market. The seal ring via VP and the bearing via a bearing shop. I have part numbers if you are ever in need.
