From a Canadian to my American boating brothers - my respects to those of you and your families who have served and died in the defence of your country.

In my family we have presently serving members and family members going back many generations.

To those who serve, our thoughts of appreciation for your sacrifice and may you stay safe. To those who have died, may you rest in peace.

The number of Canadian troops that landed on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day was huge in relation to their country's population. For that they have my gratitude and admiration.

@andyd, many thanks! My father and his brother in law landed. His brother in law died two days later in his arms. Dad had to write his sister in law with the news. He had a university degree, so at 24 he was in command of a lot of men - many who died - he wrote a lot od letters. The United States of America and Canada have stood together for more than 100 years - Here's to many more!
