Can both u-joint on the drive shaft be replace whiteout removing the drive shaft from the sterndrives.

    drive has to be pulled. Some gen 1 alphas have zirk fittings on u j's but most gen 2 or new u joints have no zerks.

    I know that the drive as to be pull out but does the drive shaft has to be remove from the sterndrive completely

    it's clumsy to handle, but, sure- they can be pressed out w/o removing the shaft.

    no need to remove entire shaft.They work and can be removed like any other u joint assembly.

    Not advisable to leave in the drive. Why not simply remove the shaft?  Easy to do.  Than you can also replace the upper seal. And also the work can be done on the bench.  I suspect you will break the spanner nut if you try to leave in.
