Pre Start Fuel Pump Process

I am hearing that I should wait 10-15 seconds after turning key to 2 o'clock to starting the engine, 3 o'clock.  That the fuel pump needs to prime the engine and I should hear the pump run  before I start it. Never heard this before, am I under educated?  Mercruiser Fuel Injected (edited) engine, new 383 stroker 2015 model.

Beautiful engine! Love the 383 Stroker, had one.

On mine I had a Gaffrig fuel pump with warning alarms. I had to turn key to allow fuel pump to prime the engine then turn fully clockwise to start and then release.

You may have a newer electronic selection remote ignition module that you turn fully clockwise then release.

What were you told was installed?

On my friends 2000 Pursuit, he lets them prime for about 5 seconds before starting.

I have been doing immediate starts. Today I did a delayed start and it was a quicker start.  This engine needs the fuel for a few seconds to turnover quickly.  I learned something new today!!  Thanks for the input!!
