I'm running standard group 24 for starting and 2 group 31's for house. If you can afford it, go with the 31's, you won't be disappointed.

I've got two group 24s for starting and two group 29s for house. Agree with Dan, long term will go with 31 for house.

I know guy here in mi that sells them
    for way under retail.
my battery 1 was bad from day one. Charge it and it would keep charge but was always weak and eventually die just from starting  the engines. Dealer had battery 1 group 24 battery 2 group 27
single house battery is group 24.
since I run the stereo, fridge and some other things I will measure and try to squeeze a 31 for house.

I would do my best to squeeze in the group 31's for your house. I have a group 24 for my starting and 2 group 31 AGM's for my house. They work great and last a long time.

If you have a single engine, then yes, only 1 for battery and 2 for house. If you have twin engines, then one battery per engine (not shared for redundancy) and one for house.

You will definitely want two batteries for house.  As others said, 31 is best.

So went to the boat today and ended up putting a 27 group for house
    batt 1 is 24 and batt 2 is 27
reason behind batt 1 being 24 is no room to squeeze that sucker in.
i don't run amp or anything like that
    just nice pioneer tunes
fridge maybe some water and lights.
batt 1 was poop from day I got the boat and I just swapped the house batt to 1 and one I purchased to house.

Group 24 for Batt 1 is fine, also fine for Batt 2 if you have a twin engine boat.  Those are just starting battery's anyways. Non of your accessories should be hooked to it. For House batteries, Group 27 or larger is needed and it must be a deep cycle.
