How to tighten port hole window hinge?

Is it possible to tighten the port hole windows so that they stay up.  It seems like there should be a way to tighten the hinge.  There are white plastic caps on the front face of the window and recessed on the hinge side but neither appear to be removable.

I took a small drill and pot a hole in the end of that cap, they are a total PITA to remove.  There is a phillips head screw under it to tighten.

Can you pry them out with a very small flat head screwdriver?

We gave up and settled for using appropriate lengths of dowel as props.  Works great and ends the frustration.

Pop out caps with a pick and tighten. ....did mine last week

That is what I tried first but it was unsuccessful.  The plastic cap is recessed in the side of the hinge (not visible in the photo).  There is nothing grab with the screwdriver.
