Guest Battery Isolater - Model 2403, Bank A2 melting?

WildboatingWildboating Member Posts: 957 ✭✭✭
Just noticed that my Battery Isolater has some melting going on the rubber boot.  I just replaced a 4 batteries in the boat last week since the former were incorrectly wired, battery switch was set to all and they had become very weak.  Is this damage that could have been done formerly?  What should I check or how should i check the system?

Is that damage new or just noticed it?  Had to get pretty toasty to melt that.

how were the batteries incorrectly wired?

That would definitely concern me.  Make sure you wired things correctly first off.  & as BD asked, how were they wired before?

I went to replace house batteries recently, I had the radio on as I was disconnecting the house batteries.  I get both batteries disconnected and discover radio was still on.  Few seconds later I hear the fridge kick on...  I start digging around and find that one of the engine connections is attached to a house battery, the house power lines were on a starting battery.  I took everything off all batteries and 1 by 1 connected 1 line to the batteries then searched out what was now working.  I now know the house is ran on house batteries and starting is on starting batteries.  Previous owner or mechanic fubarred the wiring.

I don't know if it's new or recent but I don't recall seeing it before.  Any ideas where to look?

I wonder if my alternator is acting up since that is an alternator input.

Easy enough to pull off and get tested. Is it warm to the touch now with the new batteries and corrected wiring?
