We just do not have the time we thought we would have as both our sons are playing 2 sports and this is consuming most all weekends.

I saw it yesterday as well. Has the 8.1. The only thing I hate about my 280. The 6.2L is a good motor but the 8.1 blows it away man.

Now if you can only teach them to drive the boat, wax it and winterize it Dad

none of my kids are allowed anywhere near the helm! Wax?Wake up from your dream.....

When my kids were small I used to let them set on my lap and drive the boat. Now they are older they drive it and Dad gets to relax. Ras teach your kids someday you to can let your kids drive the boat.
@rugger, there was a time in our lives when we wore out two mini vans going to soccer game's, baseball, ect. and we left boating for a while. Those were great times. You'll come back. good luck.

Man, I like the inside compared to my 2004!

The tv area, the front table (where do I get one like that?) and even the shelf behind the sink... would love to do that to my own.

My son does help me wax.  I use the buffer and he wipes it all off!  :)  My daughter wants to drive, but the admiral drives it with no issues.  So it all works out well.  I enjoy driving though, so no big deal either way.

I'm with you J3- my 270 is an 05 and I'm sure has the same "dated" look as yours. Some of the Rinker models really puzzle me....in 05 they made the 250-looks the same as the 270?  Why tow models so close in size is a puzzle to me.  And this model looks totally different as a 280 other than just more "modern" with the new fabric, lighting. The layout like you said on the TV is much nicer....all the seating on the top and sink layout much nicer from what I can tell.....the 270 is 27', the 280 can't be that much longer? Very nice boat-don't get me wrong happy with mine and I'm in my 05 for way less money and mine actually had less hours but wow, that interior is really nicer looking!

FWIW, the V berth in the 270 is larger than the 280EC. The head is also bigger in the 270 verses the 280EC. The kitchenette in the 280 is bigger along with the cabinet where the TV is mounted. That is where the V berth looses room. I can sleep in the V berth, but my feet hang off the end of the bed. I am 6' tall. @tniggel has a 270 and I have a 280. We dock next to each other and have looked over and compared boats more than once. Just like vehicles, when manufacturers come out with a newer model, they update things. The 280EC is about 2 feet longer than the 270. Where most of that 2 feet is at in the cockpit. Moving around in the cockpit of the 270 is easier because it is more open. The 280 might have more seating, but it is tight with a group of adults on board. Everyone tends to stand in the walkway from the back U shaped seat to the helm seat. It's a constant dance...

Ras, the 250 was a smaller version of the 270 and it was a way to get more people into a cruiser. Just like the 260 is a smaller version of the 280/290EC's. The 250 was 8'6" wide and the 270 is 9'1" wide. The 250 is legal to trailer without permits. Same thing with the 260. It is 8'6" wide and the 280EC is 9'1" wide.

I allways thought the 270-280-290 had same size hull, just different layouts.

    Dont a 290 have twins?
  • rasburyrasbury Member Posts: 8,410 ✭✭✭✭✭
Wow @Cableguy Greg if I buy another Rinker, I wil consult with you first, you know your Rinker's! I did not look at a 250 or 280- I really liked the openness of the 270. I had looked at the regals and the bayliner boats but they had that cramped cockpit area which I did not want so good I settled on my 270. I assume I am legal here in Florida for towing but I should double check for sure. Thanks for the info Greg!

I'll correct myself, The older 290"s 2003-2004-2005 had a 10.6 beam most with twins, the newer 290's 2013,14,15,16 have a 9ft beam most single screw, very very close, in weight, width, length, to 280,270,

Like @randy56 stated, the older ones from the early 2000's had twins. The newer ones only have a 9'1" beam and they have a single engine.

@Cable Guy Greg, easy fix for that bed shortage. Removable option = two tracks with a piece of aluminum sheeting (1/8") that will slide into them with Velcro on the top side, foam with a cover and Velcro and you have an instant bed extension. Store the aluminum sheet under the main mattress when not in use.

Just puzzles me they would make 3 different boats so close in size- and this size I would have thought not the most popular size to have multiple configurations? Go figure.
  • Cableguy GregCableguy Greg Member Posts: 5,026 ✭✭✭✭✭
@rasbury, the 250 and 270 were produced at the same time. The new model was the 260 and 280, which came out in 2007. The new model of the 280 is the 290EC.
