Any sugestions on a new amplifier for my 342? Can you use a auto amplifier or does it have to be a marine? The amplifier I have now is a Kenwood 5/4/3 800 watt .
Just depends how many speakers you are pushing and the wattage (RMS) and also if you have a sub or not. I have 2 auto amps in my 280. Have to make sure they are concealed from water and you'll be fine. Aito amps do run a little warmer than marine amps though so make sure you have enough room so the heat can escape
Also keep in mind that marine electronics usually have extra protection against moisture, vibration, sunlight and corrosion, so an automotive amp might not last as long.
Its always advisable to use a marine amp in a boat, however the 342 factory amp location is pretty well protected. Be mindful what ever amp you choose the front cockpit speakers and rear cockpit speakers are bridged to 2 ohm and the radar arch are standalone at 4ohms. Make sure your amp can have different ohm loads on each channel.
I was hoping for a go buy Brand X model X, i dont even know what an Ohms is, you guys know way to much about these boats! LOL, Everyone can get so much info on this site
I am a premium marine electronics dealer as well as I own a commercial audio visual company. I personally use and sell wet sounds audio products. The HTX6 is a 6 channel by 100 watt marine amplifier that would be a great replacement unit, this model retails for $550. I will offer it shipped to you for $500 as a member of this site.
