Center / Mid Bilge Pump Question

Can someone please confirm that both the engine room and center / mid bilge pumps should both function off the switch at the helm. I think my center pump is shot. Thx

Yes, I think they should both come on with the switch. That is how my 242 is wired.

If you lift the float does the pump come on?

I manipulated the float ... or at least I think I did ... using the knobs on the outside of the float screen and it the pump did not activate. Tried the switch...prayed...tried the switch again. Still nothing.

i assume I can just replace the pump or should do I need to replace pump and float?

Found this on E-Bay. Rule makes a very good one. Don't know how old your boat is, but they do not cost that much to replace the hole thing.

Best to get rid of the float and go with a pump that has it built in.

I like the new pumps that allow you to clip in and out the pump motors, like a cartridge. Johnson makes them. Rule also has low profile bilge pumps - with snap in/out cartridge motors.

No matter what I'd have two bilge pumps in the engine bay one on the inside hull bottom and one about 6" higher. wired to different circuits.

Thanks everyone! Good idea on the unit that doesn't require a separate float switch! Ordered today and will install next week.

I would check for power at the pump first.
my 280 has switch that just turns on main bilge pump manually.
mid ship sump has two things and they are all auto.
shower box which is auto with a float
then another pump with a float and it's all auto via floats but no switches.
