Rinker 400

Looking at 400's.      Merc 396's have enough power to get on plane with 6-8 adults on board?
Also, why are there 3 shore power plugs on starboard side?
Thanks!!!

You mean Merc 496 ... yes, enough power for many boaters.  The forum has had a raging debate over the past few weeks on "adequate" power vs. "never enough" power, and whether a 10-ton boat should require diesels.  But lots of 400 owners are perfectly happy with 496s.

One plug for air conditioner, one for other AC systems, one for cable.

Could the power be 2 30 amp and 1 50 amp for an either/or connection?

I highly doubt that boat would have a 110 amp service. On my 342 I have 2 30amp and the 1 tv/phone connection.

It's the same on all of Rinker's big cruisers: 30A, 30A, TV/phone.  All three use the same stainless covers, so it looks like three power plugs.

Raybo is correct, 2 30amp and 1 tv/phone connection.  You have all 3 on both stbd bow and aft port (shore choice).  The 30amp connections are split across the power panel, each has an air conditioner, one has range, other has water heater & so on.  Front A/C is 16k BTU, aft is 10k BTU.

As far as power, I have the 496s with B-2 drives and the boat has no problem getting on plane with 6-8 adults on board.  I had 10 adults the other week on board, half fuel, half water....no issues getting on plane whatsoever.  Actually, some on board have 342s and other boats and commented it got on plane better than theirs (& I never went over 4k rpms while getting on plane).

Any other questions, feel free to ask.  I have the 2008 400 and boat with a 2007 400 (B-3 drives) and a 2006 390 (Diesel with Volvo).  I've been thru all 3 boats more than most people in their own boat.

Dont the B2s have bigger props? Maybe thats why you can get on Plane better than most Dream.

I'm game. I'm willing to bet I can show you plenty of gas trucks running faster than any diesel. Last time I checked, the fastest diesel truck was in the low 8s in the 1/4. I have a good friend who has a little LS powered truck that can do that too.....

OK Dan, if you have identical 400s and one is Diesel, why is the diesel version slower? Because the diesels cant go over 3600 PM. Now if they could go 5000 rpm like a gasser would they be faster or the same?

So you answered your own question. Diesels are slower because they CANT go over 3600 rpm's therefor they are slower. Case closed, end of story........... Just say'n...LOL Now lets get back on topic.......

Sorry if this is posting as a duplicate, but my first post disappeared...the 400 does not have 3 power outlets......it has 3 covers.  2 of the covers are for shore power, and the 3rd is for cable tv hookup.
