Faria speedometer

I think I have concluded that the raw water impeller replacement on my '07 246 will be entrusted to a more experienced mechanic, however, another issue has surfaced. When I took this boat out for testing before buying, I did notice the speedometer did not function. There is no pitot or sending unit at the transom such as those found on other boats I have had. Just how is this speedometer supposed to work? Thanks in advance to any one out there who may have an answer.
