Hello - new to this forum.  I really like the layout of these mid 90s 232s, and a nice one just came up for sale in my area for a great price but it has the 5.0L Alpha 1 combo.  Can anyone comment on whether they consider this underpowered?  Thanks in advance.

    I have owned a 232 and a 236. Both had 502s. A 5.0 in a 232????? Geez I had a 350 Magnum B lll in my 2011 Rinker 226 XL and that was not as fast or quick to plane as I would have liked. But a 5.0 in a 232...imo - NO WAY!

I had a 1998 232cc that had the 5.7L with an Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive. The boat ran well, but it could have used some extra ponies. Unless you would want to consider repowering the boat, I would stay away from a 232 with a 5.0. You probably wouldn't be happy with it. I'm not sure what the HP rating is on the 5.0. The 5.7L was 250 HP.

Thanks Michael - thats the kind of experience I was hoping to tap into.  I feared that particular powerplant wouldnt be enough but have found a few arguments either way.  I really like the 232s, but there arent many for sale in my area unfortunately.  This one came up, but was the first one I have seen with the 5.0L.  Thanks for the feedback.

Cableguy - the owner says 230 HP on the 5.0 and claims it will hit 45mph.  seems a bit high to me.  The big block seems like the right motor to me, but there arent many around me.

The thought did go through my mind.  He is asking 5800 and from the looks of it, the boat is very clean

If he hit 45MPH, it was while a river was running fast and the wind was behind him. That boat with a 350MAG is a nice boat. You could keep the alpha drive, but it would scream with a B3 drive. A friend of mine has a 2002 232cc with the 350MAG/B3 and it hits 50MPH easy.

I have an '07 246 Captiva BR, 350 MAG MPI, B3. With full fuel(~75 gal.) water(~10gal), gear, 3 adults, under good conditions I can hit 50 mph.

Remember guys all speedometers are real +ve happy over 40mph.

You need an ACCURATE gps to get your mph.

I had a 2011 Rinker 226 XL with a 350 Mag Blll with through hulls and I could not hit 50 mph most days using an ACCURATE gps....and a 226 XL was a light boat with a fast hull.
