New Speed Record
Bill Tomlinson (Canadian) just set a speed record at the LOTO (Lake of the Ozarks) Speed Shoot-Out. His Mystic cat powered by twin 3000HP Lycoming turbines hit 224 MPH.
That's a nice recovery from a couple of years ago when it hit an 8 foot cross wave while racing past our condo and went sideways ripping half the back off.
Bill and his brother started-out as kids near where I lived in Ottawa with a small trucking company that is now one of biggest in Canada.
Later he built a waterfront house in Manotick just down the Rideau River from the waterfront house I built. I used to watch him run his boats up and down the river at dusk and dawn to avoid traffic.
Nice guy, great record.
Want to watch? It should ne on Powerboat Nation.

Great Infos, I saw his waterfront house, and his toys, amazing what money can achieve when it came to toys. I would surely try to find the video in question.
Handy, it is a big deal when somebody has so much fun doing stuff like that.
@craigswardmtb... you're now tied with Ray for the funniest Handy-Slam! All in good fun of course...but Handy does seem to be unusually crabby! What's the matter Steve, diesel lag?
Update.....the 224 record was actually set in 2013....if my readings are correct, it has since been broken by Spirit of Qatar with a speed of 244

DanD2...I hope you're wrong....LOL... I don't have many marbles left in the bag as it is. The post just hit. I'll check it. I have to say after the accident to "My Way" that happened out on the St. Lawrence within sight of our condo and the pictures my Admiral took of Bill's boat afterward - we heard that his wife who owns her own boat.... "Her Way" forbid him to race anymore, so I wondered what he was doing at LOTO....maybe your response is the answer!
@Jstew, that's awful. I thought they all the raceboats had safety capsules and air....wonder what happened?
@jstew, some real fast boats there. The Admiral walked down to where Bill and Ken were loading their 6000HP Mystic onto the custom trailer pulled by a custom diesel rig that I believe was a 3/4 scale Kenworth highway hauler a couple of years ago after it crashed - at ONLY - about120mph? and took some pictures. If she still has them on her phone I'll post them. I never thought that boat would be able to handle 6000 HP again after that damage. I'd be nervous! But I hear the two are racing it again. yes, GONADS!
BTW the throttleman Ken Kehoe started out about 20 years ago as a kid with a truck who built cottage docks. His multimillion dollar company now builds docking systems for entire 500 slip marinas. Hard work and honesty do pay-off sometimes.
I have driven a cigarette boat at 100 mph and that was plenty fast for me...pucker factor, in my case!
