Little over 16 volts output

I have a 1992 186 Captiva just bought this spring. LOVE IT!! up trim solienoid went bad noticed my voltage output is over 16 volts is that to high? is altenator regulator bad? thank you

I figure built into altenator just like vehicle altenator.

@davidnlrar - Where was that voltage measurement of 16 V taken?

that's what showed on voltmeter in dash I did not have my hand meter with at time

your voltage regulator is shot. If you continue to run the boat you will boil the water out of the battery. some guys have cheated using the boat without a regulator by turning on all the electronics, not recommended but it does lower the voltage down

I would confirm with a hand held multimeter before doing anything else.
