What is it, and what does it do?

I was poking around my 2011 Bravo III outdrives today, and I spotted a "thing" that looked broken (see photos).  The "thing" was attached via a thin, black tube on the port side of each outdrive.  In fact, they weren't even ATTACHED.  They were both simply dangling off the end of the tube.  One of the tubes was damaged, and the "thing" fell off when I played with it too much.
What are these things?  Something vital?  Something I can purchase?  I walked our entire boatyard, and I couldn't find another example of what I was seeing on my boat.

Got me?  whats the tube attached too. Something (trash) you picked up in the water floating around.

Yep speed pitot tube which your gauges likely don't support.

warrantyvoider mentions that this is a 2011 B3. Is this a newer style pitot tube? My 2007 B3 has no such arrangement, but just a small hole in the front of the lower section of the out drive to which a tube is connected internally. Mine is blocked. I've tried clearing it out with an 1/8" twist drill, but no luck.
