If I had to pull up mountains I'd have a different set up or probably a smaller boat. People at the ramps are amazed I pull that out with a 4x2 f 150...I see bigger trucks smoking their wheels with smaller boats...
Actually are you supposed to look at the GVWR, weigh the truck loaded and subtract that weight from the GVWR and that gives you what is left to tow safely.
We are light people...but yes that is correct. I know I'm right on the cusp. If I were to tow long distance at highway speeds, I'd have a bigger truck for sure.

I believe what you are talking about is the GCWR (gross weight combination rating) this includes the trailer , truck, people and gear. The GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) doesn't include trailers.
I work at a dealership and had a nice crew cab 250 4x4 come in I almost bought and I'm towing once a month at least- could not bear the thought of driving that big truck around all the time.
