You could just go with what both LaRea and I have suggested. Seems to be a good way to go and can be reused somewhere else at any time.
I sure hope when I get old like Handy that I will use my boat more often. Especially if I have it on a lift right behind my house. Sunset cruises at least a couple times a week. Take it for happy hour cruises as well! If you don't use it, you might as well sell it!
Come Handy why would you put a lamp on a GFCI? Plug the foolish lamp into a outlet and call it a day. You are making a big deal out of nothing....... Stop the non-sense..........LMFAO

Many shore power cords have a small LED light that comes on when the cord is powered. The cord I have had such h a light on the end that connects to the boat. I can see the light from far away. Would something like that work for you Handy? You wouldn't have to wire up anything special...but you would have to buy a new shore power cord with the LED indicator. Lots of marine stores carry them.
If your gone from the boat that long, maybe just empty and shut down the fridges and then there is no real battery draw and no worry if power goes out?
Handy - Since you tripped the 30 amp pedestal breaker, you should consider checking the age and condition of your shore power cord. I have actually seen worn shore power cord connectors that caused breakers to trip and almost caused a fire on a friend's SeaRay. Here's a good article from Boat US about what an aged power cord can do: http://www.boatus.com/seaworthy/magazine/seajul10.pdf
Most folks rarely or never check the connectors on their shore power cords and I've seen many that showed signs of arcing - just like the pictures in the Boat US article.
So I installed a red LED at the twist lock and one on the side of the panel. I checked all the wiring at the boat's twist lock and all was tight. Maybe it's some where else?
