Adding screw holes/filling old screw holes/securing loose screws

Hi Everyone,

I am replacing my battery trays with the battery boxes.  The holes do not line up so I need to screw new holes and fill in the old ones.  When screwing in new screws, should I put a sealant so no water gets in, maybe a rubber washer?  Can I fill the old holes with UV4000?

My transom door screws are coming loose as well as a few other screws around the boat, can I secure them with UV4000 as well?

Any tips or experience is appreciated.

The "textbook" way to fill those holes would be to fill with west system epoxy, that will ensure no water saturation. In reality the 4000 is fine but I would epoxy the holes or use 4000 as sealant and put screws back in those holes. Yes it is best to use 4000 on the new screw holes, doubt that was done at the factory but that is best.

Thank you for the info Liberty.  I will go the epoxy route to avoid the extra screws.

Do I need to use epoxy on the screws that are loose?  It seems the screw holes are a little stripped.

yes, right way to go would be to use a thickened epoxy. Drill out the holes larger than they are now and fill with the thickened epoxy. You can re drill and make new holes in the epoxy for screws that are no longer loose/stripped.
