PCM shows that engine in gear

So I was troubleshooting an issue with the engine and was going through the readings on the PCM and noticed that one of my engines shows up as "In Gear".  The engine is a 2003 Merc 350 MPI. I haven't tried checking if the props are spinning yet but it starts fine.  Goes into gear forward and reverse but doesn't seem to change the PCM readout.  I would think that if it was in gear it wouldn't start.  Anyone run across this before?

Can you erase it. Is it a code?

No it isn't a code.  It is a "current status"  kind of like rpm.

Is your neutral safety switch stuck?

I was going that way but it wouldn't be much of a safety switch if it let me start it while in gear.

Thanks @Alswagg I will look for that on the control assembly and see if it is stuck in.
