News from the Mechanic: Leaking bellows, and rusted Gimbal bearing on Bravo 3.

I haven't had a chance to drop by there and see the extent of damage, but he said the universal joint looks okay. I'm hoping the bearing hadn't failed and gotten ground up yet.  My boat only had 170 hours on it when I bought it last fall, lots of time just sitting around in it's life, so I'm hoping the rust is intact, and not ground up through everything.  The bellows had leaked, and let some water intrusion get in........keep your fingers crossed!  :o

The gimbal bearing is just a carrier bearing. It sits in the transom assembly protected by the bellows. It's rusted because the bellows leaked. It is a relatively easy fix. While they are replacing the bellows, have them do the shift boot as well. That will be the next one to go.

As long as the gimbal ring is okay, it won't be too bad. If the ring is bad, it starts getting pricey.

Yea you'll want to do a transom kit; shift cable, all bellows, gimbal bearing. Cost here is around $1200 per drive parts and labor
