"Rinker" style ignition key

WillhoundWillhound Member Posts: 4,187 ✭✭✭✭✭
Would like to get some spare keys made for my 2000 FV270. The key I have is in the pic. I'm aware that Mercruiser keys only come on about 6 or 8 versions numbered 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B etc.  But how do I tell with these? Is it stamped on the ignition someplace?

    Any locksmith can make that

Looks like someone replaced your ignition switch. Rinker has been using Sierra switches for years and they only used a handful of keys. A locksmith should be able to help with getting keys made.

Now that I look at it, you're right. Starting to make a little more sense now, also no cabin keys. Starting to think the boat was a repo or something.

If you look at the inside of the cabin door lock, it will give you the key number. It should be the number starting with a 9. It is 3 digits. You can go to Mobellakeys.com to get that one made up for you.

And some research and a trip to the local hardware store shows the ignition key is a Y11 blank. $2 each.

Could easily be that someone along the way had easy access to a sea ray dealer or marine max and had the key made. Actually it's a pretty nice key!

Could be. There was a Marine Max nearby for awhile and it is on a Marine Max floating fob. Will take a closer look at the ignition next time I'm at the boat.

I had cabin door and ignition keys made by locksmith.  The cabin door is a weird key they couldn't find an exact blank for...But they came close and it worked.

Mobella keys are really good. Just give them the 3 digit code and they will send it out right away!

Made it over to the boat tonight. My cabin door has this little strap on the interior. Without it, it would be impossible to get your fingers into the cabin door latch and open it from the inside. When I removed it I found these codes as in the second pic. On Mobellakeys.com I don't see a 993 series key but I do see an 811 under the 800 series, so I guess that's mine? Also, I assume the little latch with the Rd dot is an inside lock? I would think the red means it's engaged but the door opens and closes freely. Ando I can't seem to move the little slide lock. Maybe broken ?

It should be the 811 code. If you look at this thread, @jme097 has the 915 key.

Thanks @Cableguy Greg just wanted to confirm it's the second number to use.
What about the interior lock. Is there a trick to that? Or is mine just jammed? Didn't want to force it.  Not that I probably would lock it if I'm in there anyway.

You can buy a whole new OEM assembly offline that's a direct fit. Mine is a 915 series. It'll either be a 800 or 900 series key.

I think the red dot is much like the safety on a gun...if you see the red dot that means it's hot and ready to fire...which means when you see the red dot the door is unlocked and ready to open.

Makes sense. Should it slide to lock the door from inside? Mine doesn't seem to want to move. Is there a method to it?

    Red dot is unlocked.
Thanks for that Greg. As per above, is there any trick to sliding it up and down? I just ordered keys from Mobellakeys, maybe wait until they come in and try it on the key and get things moving?

I think the key has to be pulled out at a certain position to use the lock from inside.

When you remove the key, the slot should be horizontal.
