Sealer on riser joint VP 5.7

I am prepared to follow VP instructions that come with replacements, but can anyone inform me as to why we should not use extra help in the form of quality gasket sealer on the manifold / riser joint with the metal gasket? The said joint is on a VP 5.7 300 hp 2010. I could be happy if a good explanation was given such as the black coating on the new gasket turned into a sticky sealer with heat etc. But no explanation is given with the spare parts, if anyone has already discovered the answer I would be grateful to here it.
Thanks Bazza.

I'm thinking the exhausts get hotter than anything else gasketed on the engine, and metal gaskets don't need a sealant.  Can't necessarily speak for Volvo-Penta, as I never had one.
