Im in the process of buying a 2003  270 fiesta vee  with a 350 merc the outdrive was stolen over the winter. Im replacing with a Bravo 3 sea core I was wondering what pitch prop you could recommend Im thinking of the Hill Marine 4x4 or 4x3 with a 22 pitch .I Called Rinker and emailed for the past week but no answer Thanks Greg

If I had to replace mine, I'd absolutely go with 4x4 first and if not liking the numbers try and 4x3.. Not sure about the 22pitch, I can tell you I'm not thrilled with my 3x3 22p with a 383 motor.. it seems like the 350 with the 3x3 22pm was actually faster top end, not sure about getting on plane as I hardly used the 350 before it broke.

Whatever you do, please report back with exact numbers of gps top speed, rpm and seconds to top speed :)

I just ordered the Hill Marine 4X4 20 pitch for my 2005 270. Unfortunately boat is in water but have not had chance to get out on lake yet. It's been terrible weather in Cleveland. Hopefully I get out this week and let you know. Hill Marine suggested the 20 pith because I had 22 pitch with the old props

The factory props on the B3 were 22 pitch.

OK Thanks all just bought a bravo 3 sea core and was speaking to the seller ,He said if I put the Hill props on I might have a warannty issue if their was a problem. He recommended the 4X 3 with a 22 pitch ,might be a month till the boat hits the water the boat is being delivered tomorrow and is a little rough it was a little negleted  the past 2 years. I think Ill start by pulling the risers and see how they look

What's your top gps speed and rpm?  And if you don't mind your cruising at 27mph rpm :)

@J3ff its all relative really. Depending on load and conditions of course. I would say with 2-3 people on board and cooler and misc items, at 27 MPH I am like 3800-4000 rpm's. But I am out of the whole relatively quick with my tabs all the way down. I would rather be out of the whole quick and on plan faster than a faster cruise. Im in no hurry lol. My top speed I think was 34 or 35 on GPS. My speedometer is my Mercmonitor which is tied into my GPS

@jme097, We have the same boat, same engine, same drive, but I have 22 pitch props. I have a little longer hole shot, which isn't all that bad, but I have better top end. I can hit 43MPH GPS when all trimmed out.

@Cableguy Greg  Yeah I definitely cant break 35/37 I don't think. I have thought about swapping the 20P out for a 21 or 22P just to see how she would do but what for? lol

The reason I ask is because I have a 2004 270 which cannot get over 37 miles per hour on GPS. I also have the triple blade 22p propellers that were newly reconditioned this winter. It does cruise at about 28 nicely but I can't help thinking that may be the additional torque that the 383 provides might be used better with a steeper prop.

@J3ff you repowered to a 383? Is it a stroker? That would be nice. I don't have crazy desire to go much faster thats why I bought a cruiser but knowing you have it there in your back pocket is always nice especially when you're trying to outrun a storm lol

yeah - repowered to a 383 stroker.   What I'm really hoping for is that some combination of number of blades and differences in pitch will combine into the highest performance possible out of this boat..

A lot of people told me that putting the 383 in there I'd see a gain in performance.  I honestly have not seen/felt anything different vs a 350.  This leads me to believe a change in prop is also needed, kind of like a car..  you can keep putting more and more HP in it, but if you're using the same stock tires that have exceeded their grip potential 3 upgraded motors ago, well, you aren't going to see much more.

The problem is I can't seem to get results from many people with the 4 x 4 propellers or the 4 x 3...

I don't need to be the fastest on the water, would just like to make sure all the extra gas being burned is used to it's best result! :)

From what I have read on here and as well as other forums is that the 4x3 really helps with low speed maneuvering and docking. I could be wrong but thats what I remember seeing.  What is the different in numbers from the 350 to the 383? I would love to throw the 496 in. Should of held out for one

Apparently the 383 out performs some of the 454 engines.. Here's a nice video about it.  http://www.boattest.com/engine-review/Mercury-Remanufacturing/29500118_383-MAG-Stroker_2015

Not really worried about low speed stuff and docking, coming from a single OMC outdrive this boat is amazing compared to that!

Just want to make sure it's biting the water as much as it can!
