Was at the boat this past weekend. Shoved some paper towel into the steering pin area in the transom and maybe 20 minutes later went back and it was soaked. so I think I've confirmed that it's leaking. I've put a message into the boat yard that did the work for me. See what they say I guess.
Question for you guys would be...what would cause this seal to leak considering I had the gimbal ring and upper shaft replaced with the seals at the beginning of 2016 season?
Did they actually replace the seal and put it in right way up? How was the ring replaced - engine out, Merc 1" hole method or the J&R face plate method? Only real place water can get in.
A bit of weight off my shoulders...I contacted the yard that performed the work and although they said they have never had a bad install like this...they are noting in their system and going to check it out in the fall when I go for storage. The leak is slow so I think it will be fine waiting until fall to address it.
