Identification Number

I'm looking at an older boat that needs some work, so I am hoping I can get some help on here. My first question is where can I find the ID number on a Rinker 186 Captiva? That's about all I know about the boat so far, not sure about the year 80's or early 90's possibly, it has a Mercruiser 262 inboard/outboard that is in good shape. So after I get the boat and start digging into it deeper I hope I can post more questions here and get some help fixin her up. Thanx in advance for any advice.

It should be on the rear starboard side of the boat, more than likely on the transom by the rub rail.

Is it a tag or just stamped in the paint

It's stamped into the gel coat.

OK I found the HIN, how do I decode it? The number is RNK26620E888 if anyone knows a link or can tell me what the year is that would help out, oh sorry I don't know a whole lot about boats I'm fairly new to this

I believe it's a 1988,usually the last 2 numbers indicate the year.

It is a 1988 model year boat that was built in May of 1988. The E8 signifies May of 1988 and the 88 is the model year.
