Size boat..what do you tell people?

Okay so my boat is a 270 LOA 30'.  When people ask me what size boat I have I say a 30 footer...while technically without the swim platform it's probably a true 27 foot.  How do others answer that question?

I say 30. Unless it's someone that knows boats and I'll elaborate by saying a Rinker 270, 30' LOA 'cause I know they'll understand.  My marina is very cool though. They charge by manufacturer's designation so my slip is rated at 27'.

Boats not longer go by water line. Its LOA. I have a 342 if I go on yachtworld.com and type in 34ft 310's display. If I type 37 I get 342's.

LOA. A 260 EC is the same length as a Four Winns V285.

@Alswagg I have to say that is not how most places do it. They want LOA heII I pay for 38'4" at my club that I have been a member going on 20 years because someone measured from the tip of the anchor to the end of the swim platform. Most places charge me for a 37 footer............. Just say'n

I always tell the marinas I have a 34 footer when I am reserving a slip.

Ray I know  it makes for so much confusion much simpler to simply charge what the boat says.     Boat manufactures are just as confusing.  The current 370 was a 360 that was also a 350. Same hull and deck.  Virtually the same boat
So true Al and most marina's try to squeeze every penny they can.

Smallest slip at my harbor is 30'...so no matter what you are at least paying for 30'.

My storage facility looked up LOA and that's what they charge me on.

I say 34 to anyone who asks whether it is transient dockage, winter storage, a co worker or a guy in a bar. Says 342 on the side and she is a 34 footer.

Our boat club goes on Reg size for dockage fee so we pay for 31' but she's 34 LOA. The prior marina decided a couple of years ago to use LOA instead so it added dockage, storage and shrink wrap costs. Easy revenue generation!

Store mine inside and they charge for the swim platform so they charge for 37'on my 342 if it was outside storage I don't have to pay the extra 3'

If its a marina asking I have a Rinker 276 cuddy, so then they assume 27.5 feet, although its really 29' OAL.

Person on the street I say its a 28 foot cuddy. I figure I split the difference between hull and OAL, so no one can call BS on me. :D

I honestly think its kinda funny (and borderline lame) when a boater tells me he has a 26 footer, and he has a 23 footer with a huge platform and pulpit....

It does, but I know in reality it's 27.5' long with a 18" platform.
