Transmission slip?

When in forward gear at idle, there is a slight delay before thrusting forward as if a "slip" then moves forward fine. No issues in reverse or at throttle under load that I can notice. What could cause this? I have not experienced this in any other boat. Shift cable adjustment? Any input is appreciated! I have (1997) 266FV with 5.7 bravo 2.

Could be a prop hub or an engine coupler.

Thanks for the responses. Funny thing is that pulling from slip or forward/reverse backing in all is fine. Only at idle speed in no wake zone and throttle up is there the "delay" then engages.

I bought the boat and the gear lube reservoir was low (almost empty). I added correct gear lube and does not use any, showing no leaks so I hoped all was ok. the slippage only appeared recently and don't want to get into major repairs but may have to.

I had my shift linkage and the detent ball go bad on mine. I would put it into forward and it would take a second or two to go into gear. Changed it this spring and it shifts like a champ.
