there are a couple of comparison articles out there comparing a v drive 342 to a bravo 3. Bravo 3 handled better and had 30% ish better economy overall. I'd still take the v drive though for our Lake Erie chop.
The leess moving parts, the less chance of something going wrong, v-drive has less moving parts then outdrives, and full inboards have less than v-drive. You lose low speed handling and top end performance along with some fuel milage, but more dependable. Could last the life of the boat with only fluid changes. In my opinion of course. What about pods? I have no experience with those.
