lowrance 3500c mind of it's own

 i have an 06 250 ec with the original lowrance 3500c that comes on when it wants to. i have removed the dash panel and checked the connection and it appears to be solid ground and hot connection. half the time the gps won't even turn on but out of the blue i will push power and boom, it comes on. what unit would be a good direct replacement for this model so that i can use the same mounting area?
