Lake Erie Islands

Hello Rinker Owners,
We are planning a week long criuse from Algonac to the Lake Erie Islands this August. It will be our first trip down there and we are looking for advice on picking islands, restuarants and marinas. All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks [/H5]

I would try a free site called ActiveCaptain.com. This is a great resource for trip planning.

Head to Put in Bay or Kelly's. The public docks at Put in Bay can get crazy and loud. If you want a little quiet try PIB yatch club or use one of the floating balls in the harbor. They have a free taxi service to take you to the land. On Kelly's try the Casino, ask to be put on the wall. Middle Bass is a state park that has brand new docks and has a few clubs/restaurant and lots to explore. The local chamber of commerce has lots of information available. Enjoy

One more thing, although not an Island is Cedar Point Marina at Cedar Point Amusement Park They do not have minimum stay and there is plenty to do there.

Any Michigan members interested in a trip this 2013 Summer to Putin Bay?

Here are other lake festivities dates: Jobbie Nooner 6/28 & 9/14,
    Gold Cup Races 7/13-14,
    Bud Bash 8/3,
    Official Raft Off 8/10.

I will post more as more activities are solidified.

Check out the small museum on South Bass  PIB.  The Tower is also nice to visit.  Kelly's has the Glacier rocks to explore also.  If the wind is coming from the south, anchor on the North end of Kelly's the beach is awsome.   Be particularly carefull around the islands as showls can pop up right in front of you if you are not carefull.  Do you have some chart chips of the area??  Famous Dave's BBQ is a great spot for dinner while at Cedar Point.    So many places to explore and see, you can not do it all in one summer.  Al

Since I made this original post we have made our way down to Erie twice. We have had two stays at the Crews Nest Club in PIB and I highly recommend it. Non members can stay during the week and they have a great restaurant, bar and pool. Nothing like sitting on the front porch of the CN looking at the view with a margarita! We stayed Sunday - Thursday, the town is nice without all the weekend warriors. The bars had some great entertainment and interesting people watching. There is enough to do on the island, with shopping, the monument, cave, wineries, butterfly house .....
Kelly's Island was a day well spent with the golf cart ride around the island. We stopped to see the glacier grooves, a visit at the park, and great lunch over at the West Bay Inn (a real friendly place, good food and a great Tiki bar with a beautiful view of the lake).
Charts and GPS made the trip a no brainer and a great run for the Rinker from Algonac, MI. We are entertaining the idea of another trip down that way again this year. Maybe adding a stop at Leamington Canada, Cedar Point or Vermillion.
