I'm gonna guess those smaller boats were anchored, and the sail boat didn't want to lose his lead, so full steam ahead.

Wow!!!!  That was a close one.  I would not want to be the helmsman on the middle sailboat.  He was kind of stuck between everyone with no way to maneuver.  I know sailboats have the right of way but this was really pushing it.

Looks to me like the sailboats had left the established race corridor and entered the observation area. A bunch of boats were doing their best to get under way and scram out of there.....
