1994 fiesta Vee 265 steering slop

Before I tear into it I was wondering if anyone has experience with the steering setup on a 1994 265? I haven't traced where the play is coming from yet but I suspect the steering column itself. Any suggestions as to what to look for would be appreciated.

I popped the cap off and the wheel is tight to the shaft, no play between those two parts.

Steering pin and shaft skennelly refers to is in the transom assembly/drive on the engine. I have had the same trouble.

Correct...sorry if I was too vague.  Where the tiller arm goes into the transom assembly it's connected to a pin and that pin fits into a keyed part of gimbal ring.  Over time that can develop slop and cause play in the drive.

Not sure what drive you have...but usually requires the engine to be pulled in order to repair.
