Outdrive Up switch doesn't work, Trailer switch does
232 Captiva CC outdrive drive up switch doesn't work but the trailer up switch does. I've been getting by using the trailer switch but would like to fix this issue. Any idea's on where I start my search? Schematics might be helpful too. Thanks, Randy
Meanwhile, since this is a new boat to me (never had an outdrive) I'm not sure how 'down' the drive needs to be. Without a working 'up' switch I'm not certain how far 'up' is too much. Any advise on that would be great too.

Hello Randys58, I don't like to assume but for the sake of this discussion, I'll assume you have a Mercruiser Sterndrive. This may vary slightly depending on Year and Model (Alpha or Bravo drives) The Mercruiser Bravo 3 drives I have use a TRIM LIMIT switch which is on the PORT side of the gimbal ring. This is used to intentionally limit the amount of travel of the drive in order to prevent damage or injury. The links I've listed do a great job of explaining in detail the operation of the Trim/Tilt system and have lot's a good pictures. Take a look.....................
http://www.sterndrives.com/supplies/mdtips06.htmlTheory of Operation:
The Trim Limit Switch is a safety device which keeps the driver from over-trimming while under way.
Trimming the drive too high while under way can cause damage, injury or death.
The Trim Sender Switch is used to send a signal to the Trim Gauge so you can see the level of the drive.Description:
The Trim Senders are located on either side of the Gimbal Ring.
The Trim Limit Switch is mounted to the Port side of the Gimbal Ring.
Newer model switches will have a "TL" or "Trim Limit" embossed in the plastic (see image below)This is a very detail explanation of the system with schematics. http://cemrweb.cemr.wvu.edu/~mathews/boat/pdf/manual/Chapter%20Eighteen.PDF
