Outdrive Up switch doesn't work, Trailer switch does

232 Captiva CC outdrive drive up switch doesn't work but the trailer up switch does. I've been getting by using the trailer switch but would like to fix this issue. Any idea's on where I start my search? Schematics might be helpful too. Thanks, Randy

Meanwhile, since this is a new boat to me (never had an outdrive) I'm not sure how 'down' the drive needs to be. Without a working 'up' switch I'm not certain how far 'up' is too much. Any advise on that would be great too.

This season I will have to live with the broken switch. Can anyone tell me how much up tilt is safe to operate the boat with? I've read the purpose of the separate switches is to prevent damage by raising the drive to much while operating the boat. I often operate I shallow areas where raising the drive to gain a little draft would help but fear raising it to the point of causing a problem. Thanks,

My 2007 280EC Merc 350Mpi with the Merc controller had the same issue. The problem was boken solderingpoints In the switch located on the lever. Took. 45 minutes to fix without a manual. Getting the pesky handle off was the biggest issue. Push in the idle only button at the axiom of the handle and move the handle to the full throttle position. With a small jewel skrewdriver pry the idlebutton out, it should be unlocked when the handle is a WOT position. Once the handle iss off you will find small hex or torx screws, again jewel size. Unscrew to remove the neutral lock handle, red. Once removed simply push the tilt button out towards the back of the handle. The solderingpoints Are covered with what appears to be black silicone. Remove with a small screwdriver. Mind you, mine still had 12v power although battery switch was off. Be careful. If you study the cables you can se the kinks and bends, they will tell you where each cable belongs if they have moves from their solderingpoints. Solder them back, test, fill switch with hot glue to eliminate future problems. When reassembeling handle make sure trimcable comes out infront of the pivotpoint of the handle. Hos giver the cable the most slack as you throttle more forward than backwards. Good luck. Pls ignore spelling mistakes, I'm not ignorant, I'm european ;)
