Rinker 330, constant gas smell from both gas caps, new o rings installed last year. Any suggestions?

I have a constant gas smell from each cap on my Rinker 330. I installed new o rings, (from the  hardware store), however I thought they fit well. Help?

The caps have an internal vent, maybe you are smelling the vent fumes?

The vent may be stuck open. It should only vent air inward as a vacuum in the tank develops. Like a car

thanks, I will look into that. How would I know if the vent is stuck? What and where is the vent

I suggest getting the right o rings also for the caps. Don’t assume it fits correctly nor is suitable for gas.

The vent is internal to the cap. No visual. It either works or not.

You should see a small rubber flapper on the inboard face of the fuel cap. That is the vent valve.

I suspect you have Perco caps
