Fuel usage

last season I replaced port and star sending units because port had a dead spot. It basically went from full to e lol. Star was ok but kept bouncing so I replaced it anyway.
spring came around and I filled the tanks to the rim.
my port side gage would always read almost half tank lower when compared to the star.
anway so I thought to myself that well maybe it’s the gage.
so yesterday at the fuel dock i go put 150 $ in each tank.
girl starts pumping and after few gallons she goes your star side tank is full. Star gage is the one that reads always higher when compared to port. I thought port was the good gage and Star was off lol.
anyway I have valves for each fuel tank and a main valve that would assume can run port and star engines off one tank.
i did check that valve and it moved a little to the off position but not much to say it was the problem.
i am just very confused to the point that I think port and star run 75 percent on one tank lol
my engines run good and I know they are not running rich.
so unless one of the valves is broken and it’s using port side I am out of ideas.
star does use fuel according to the gage but not at the port rate.

i do have a buyer lined for asking this winter
actually my old miller neighbor
long story short port and star sending units replaced with generic 12 inch sending units last fall.
Still couldn’t figure out what tank was right or wrong.
port side seemed to be accurate due to gallons pumped and gage reading after.
star would
never fall past half the last few times out.
original sending units were a lot shorter and had bends in them.
now port side that works “good” is not modifies.
anyway opened up the star tank and sure enough it’s way low and not half.
for me to get the fuel Gage’s to read some what identical I have to trim the length and put few bends in.
makes sense because it now looks closer to what was inside from factory.
quesion is why my I modified port sender reads good and I had to modify star. Maybe ohms and resistance is different from sender to sender.
tanks look inderical and sender are towards the middle of the boat. Only other explanation could be maybe a different in tank geometry?
anway I will see next time I fill
up
whats what
